Social Services Workforce App Handover
(10th August 2023 – Avani Lesotho)
Baylor Karabo ea Bophelo held a cordial event at Avani Lesotho hosting delegates from PEPFAR-USAID, Ministry of Gender, Youth, Sports, Arts, Culture and Social Development and Data Care Uganda. The day marked an Official handover of the Social Services Workforce App with tablets included to aid the Ministry staff in achieving their objectives. The App is the first of its kind in Lesotho as it paves a way for more to be developed. The App was developed by Data Care Uganda in collaboration with IT staff members of both Baylor KB and the Ministry.
In attendance, just to mention a few guests, was Hon. Pitso Lesaoana (Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports, Arts, Culture and Social Development), Mrs. Mahlapane Makakole Bodiba (Acting Principal Secretary – Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports, Arts, Culture and Social Development), Mr. Ian Membe (Deputy Country Director – USAID Lesotho), Mrs. ‘Masechache Sechache (HIV Prevention and OVC Advisor at PEPFAR-USAID).
Dr. Seema Ntjabane (Chief of party – Baylor Karabo ea Bophelo) highlighted the overall objective of the KB Activity – which is to support the government of Lesotho to expand Access and to improve Uptake of Multi-Sectoral interventions. Mrs. Mahlape Phakoe (Technical Lead- Strategic Information – Baylor Karabo ea Bophelo) went into detail on the App features and noted that the App comes with a user-friendly manual to make life easy for users (Social Workers).
The Honorable Minister’s closing remarks were warm and filled with gratitude as he officially received the App and tablets. He strongly urged his staff to make good use of the devices in carrying out their objectives.
KB SERVICE DAY (31 August 2022) – TDY Visit
This event was held at Ha-Masana, Mazenod in the Maseru District led by Karabo ea Bophelo (KB) and its implementing partners (PSI, JHPIEGO and EGPAF) initiating Demand Creation for Health Services. KB encouraged AGYWs to join Safe Spaces and also offered screening and referral services to clients, whereas the partners made the following services accessible:
- Unwanted Pregnancies Prevention for AGYW.
- HIV testing and Prevention including HIV self-test for AGYW (15-24 yrs) and Men (20-49 yrs)
- PrEP Services and Monitoring
- COVID-19 Vaccination
- Cervical cancer screening and treatment
- STI Testing and treatment
As part of demand creation, GBV and HIV Prevention literature was distributed for Education and awareness to clients and everyone present. KB also ensure availability & accessibility of both male and female condoms, including condom messaging, ensured introduction of all Evidence-based curricula to all participants especially AGYW.
